Claire is an Assistant Professor of Multiliteracies at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. She completed her doctoral studies at the Department of Language and Literacy Education at the University of British Columbia. Her research interests include visual literacy, visual rhetoric, film, documentaries, environmental literacy, and teacher education. Her SSHRC funded doctoral study was entitled “The iconic polar bear: Visual rhetoric and environmental documentaries”, and explored the visual rhetorical modes in environmental documentaries and how they engender awareness, and possibly, even a willingness to act in more eco-conscious ways.
A former secondary English Language Arts teacher in Alberta, Claire continues to guide and mentor teacher candidates and professional educators through her courses, guest lectures, and professional development workshops.
